Monday Memories - Matthew 5:16
This post originally published in March, 2008. Still a message I need to be challenged with, how obvious is my faith to those around me?
Apparently, some improv people got together and pulled a little prank on the city of New York. This video shows a unique stunt played by some 200 people who stood frozen in time for 5 minutes in the middle of the Main Concourse of Grand Central Station.

This video clip has floated around the web a bit and it got me to thinking.
The following passage in Matthew 5:13-16 came to mind, "You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”
If
200 Christians went into the Main Concourse determined to live out
their faith for 5 minutes would it make the world stop and wonder?
What would it look like?
Would people notice the difference between us and others?
Would our light shine non-ignorably?
Two hundred people in that vast concourse wasn’t really too many, but they had a profound impact on the environment and no one could pass through without noticing that something unusual was taking place.

If
Christians truly lived out their faith, even as a small minority of the
population, it should make those around us stop and wonder. They should
see our good deeds and praise God, bring glory to Him.
How often do I hide my faith, blend in with the crowd, go with the flow?
What if I were frozen in time and only God moved in and through me?
In the same way, let your light shine before men,
that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”
