Virtual Birthday party ideas
Figuring out how to have a birthday party in the midst of this madness. Fortunately, since we are a couple months in, many people have already wrestled through and shared numerous virtual ideas.
Just putting everything in one spot as I am in the midst of planning the first of what might be many virtual parties over the next few months.
Little Things came up with a number of doable ideas for a kids' birthday party. Makeup parties, Legos, craft, dance, etc. They also share some helpful virtual resources peppered throughout their article.
Places offering to host virtual parties (in case you don't even want to think about how to fill an hour of virtual interactions):
Camp, a toy retailer with a handful of locations is hosting free daily birthday party at 5:00 everyday.
Invite a character to join virtually
Themes: (my child is not interested in most of these, although we did float the idea of an escape room for a bit, decided against it in the long run)
Activities to use as kids are coming in:
Games you can play virtually:
We are also planning a drive by (aka parade) where I hope to pass out cupcakes and goodies to those driving by for a face-to-face happy birthday greeting.
Definitely a different way to celebrate a birthday, but if the goal is to make the birthday child feel special and loved, there is no reason a virtual birthday party can't fill that need.
