Verse of the week -- John 10:27

Throughout Scripture we find Jesus compared to a shepherd. This brings to life for us many facets of our relationship with Christ.

He leads, we follow. He comforts and provides. He redirects with a firm hand when necessary. We have little intelligence in comparison. He willingly laid down His life on our behalf. He has a concern for each individual of the "flock."

While out running errands this well known verse came to mind, John 10:27. It says, "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me."

What a simple reassurance. Earlier in the chapter it says that the shepherd knows the sheep by name, and that he leads the way they should go. Psalm 23 of course paints even more detail into this picture as our loving Shepherd provides us with more than we need, and far more than we could attain if left to fend for ourselves.

If we belong, we will believe. He will know us. We will hear and respond to his voice.

Am I listening? He knows me. And still He calls me. I just need to follow. Not question, not try to reason it out, just follow.

The gentle calling of one who loves us. Our Creator. Our guide. Our Teacher. Our caregiver.

Our Shepherd.

27 My sheep hear My voice,
and I know them, and they follow Me.
